Marketing Photography: Satsuma Designs French Terry Collection

I loved working with Satsuma Designs on a marketing photography project for their fall collection. This limited run of fall clothing was a french terry sweatshirts and pants and I love the cozy vibe we created for these products. (You can see the spring linen collection here!) Our goal was to create a suite of lifestyle images for them to use on their website and social media.

Pre-Production

Jennifer and I had a planning call to talk about her ideas and the overall direction she wanted for the project. Based on that info, I created a treatment for us to reference throughout the planning stages. It included set up ideas, inspiration for the hair and makeup, styling ideas, proposed shoot schedules, and project estimates. It’s so important to have all the details in one place so that we can make sure we’re sharing a cohesive vision–from the big picture to the small details.

Marketing Photography for the Fall Product Line

Jennifer created a french terry sweatshirt and pants set in three different colorways. We wanted to showcase the versatility of the pieces–showing how they could go from cozy loungewear to layering pieces to wear out and about. Part of staying organzied on my end and ensuring that we were getting proper coverage of the products was creating a detailed shot list. My shot list broke down the person, location, props, and product needed for every variation. When the chaos of shoot day came around, I was so happy to have that list to rely on.

Shoot Prep and Creative Direction

Since this was a marketing photography project with a lifestyle focus, I wanted to create little stories for the pieces. We wanted to show how these pieces fit into your life, whether you’re working from home, hanging out with friends, going for a walk, or out and about.

Shoot Day

A few days before, I sent out model releases, props list, and call sheets to Jennifer and the models. They knew when to arrive, what to bring, where to park, what to wear, and how their makeup and hair should look. We didn’t leave any detail to chance, which is so important during a shoot day!
