What is a First Look? And other questions…

A first look is exactly what it sounds like, it’s the first time you and your fiance will see each other all dressed up on your wedding day! You might be curious about a first look or you might have your heart set on seeing each other for the first time when you walk down the aisle. I’m extremely biased– I think you should do a first look, and here’s why.

1. NERVES!

If you’re the kind of person who does not love being the center of attention, you’ll understandably feel a lot of jitters on your wedding day! I find that being able to talk and relax a little, together, before your ceremony does wonders for calming anxiety. Plus, you’re getting things crossed off your timeline!

2. Time you get to spend together

After your ceremony, the wedding becomes this amazing whirlwind of people who want to talk to you and hug you and congratulate you. This leaves very little time for the two of you to actually hang out and talk and take in what is actually happening. Doing a first look allows some allotted time for just the two of you (well, and me) to be together without the other 80 or so people. It’s very sweet and incredibly special for most couples. If the first time you actually get to talk to each other is after your ceremony, it can feel a little overwhelming for some couples.

3. Relieves stress

If you do a first look, we will be able to take photos of the two of you, your wedding party and your immediate families all before your ceremony! Efficiency! The only groups left after the ceremony will be any friends or extended family that won’t be present before. If we wait until after, you will certainly miss all of cocktail hour and maybe a little more. We’ll need to take photos of the two of you, your wedding party, your families, and your extended families and friends. Basically, with a first look, you and your wedding party get to the actual party faster.

4. It’s an extremely intimate time together

The photos I get from a first look are some of my favorite of the entire wedding day! You get these special few moments alone to take it all in, together. I love the raw emotion and excitement that couples feel in these small moments.

Please know that I, or any photographer you hire, will go along with what’s most important to you–the final decision is yours completely! I want you to have all the information to make the best decision for your wedding day. Please don’t let me or anyone else pressure you into either decision. This day is about what you and your fiance want. I’m just here to help you get what you want :). Happy planning!
