Newborn photos at home show such a sweet and short moment in time. Those little babies change so fast that it’s important to get a session scheduled within the first months of their life, just so you can remember how they fell asleep anywhere, that perfect newborn scrunch, and the way they just settle into your body so effortlessly.
For my style of photography, the best time to do newborn sessions is when the baby is 4-8 weeks old. My focus is less on props and more on the connection you have with your brand new child. Every baby is different–sometimes they sleep through the whole thing, sometimes they’re totally alert–and we can create really beautiful photos either way! Another perk of newborn photos at home? The outfits can be so simple. Pick out a cute onesie, a swaddle blanket, and a hat and we can easily create three different setups.

Home vs. Studio
We have three basic location choices when it comes to a newborn session. We can use your home, rent a studio, or meet in a park. And the best location for you completely depends on how life is going for your family! For some, staying home and being within arms reach of all supplies is the easiest and least daunting option. And for others, having to get their home together enough to be photographed is not an appealing choice. I assure you, your home doesn’t have to be immaculate for it to look good. If there is a clean area near a window where you can either sit or stand with your baby, that’s perfect.

Newborn Photos at Home
I love in-home sessions, especially with a teeny tiny baby. Everything feels little more relaxed, quiet, and intimate. Newborn photos should have a slow, intimate feel to them. A photo session at home also gives you the chance to include any grandparents or family that might be in town. And of course, any of your pets!
