Outfits for Your Family Photos: The Fall 2023 Style Guide

Your photos are booked, now what in god’s name do you wear? I have scoured the internet for you and gathered together outfits, links, and inspiration to put together outfits for the late summer to late fall! Let’s take a look…

1. The Warm, Colorful Palette

I’d love to see this family at a park on the water around golden hour in September. Everything would be warm, light, and joyful. These colors would provide beautiful contrast to the natural landscape and each other.

Location Ideas: Edmonds Marina Beach Park, Lincoln Park

2. The Preppy-ish Fall Look

This family would look beautiful walking around the UW campus with bright, golden leaves in the background to complement the greens and blues in their palette. I’m picturing a late afternoon session and some cozy sweaters to complement these looks.

Location Ideas: UW campus, The Ballard Locks, The Arboretum

3. The City Chic Look

I imagine this family in a background that shows off the city. Maybe they’re walking around Cap Hill and stopping at a bakery for coffee and pastries. Maybe they’re on top of a parking garage downtown with a full view of the city scape. I imagine a casual, fun, but very put-together morning together.

Location Ideas: Volunteer Park Cafe & Park, Mr. West in Madrona, The top of the downtown parking garage with Smith Tower in the background

4. The Classic PNW Palette

I call this the classic PNW palette because it looks good on nearly everyone and these colors pop in the greys, blues, and greens of so many PNW locations! I see this family in a classic spot like Gasworks Park on a slightly overcast afternoon. The look is sophisticated without feeling fussy or stiff.

Location Ideas: Gasworks, Carkeek Park

5. The Ultimate Fall Palette

These are outfits and colors that would look beautiful in basically any location, but I still imagine a spot by the water in the early evening. The feel of the shoot is relaxed and serene.

6. The Timeless, Chic Palette

I’d love to see this family in a totally neutral location to show off their sophisticated and timeless look. I imagine a studio and slightly more sleek, serious session.
